Matthew is dedicated to ensuring that his clients’ business ambitions are achieved.
He works closely with local, regional and national businesses; giving prompt, clear and authoritative legal advice which is forward-thinking and user friendly.
Matthew heads up the Preston Office Corporate and Commercial Department, with the support of a dedicated team. He advises SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises), with a particular focus on giving legal support to local businesses. He has expertise in dealing with extensive areas of corporate and commercial law, for example:
• Drafting commercial contracts;
• Dealing with the sale and acquisition of SMEs
• Dealing with share sales and transfers
• Advising on company “buy-ins” and “buy-outs”
• Advising on corporate finance and business loan documentation, including guarantees;
• Drafting shareholder agreements, company resolutions and regulatory documents;
• Dealing with business restructuring;
• Advising on commercial property matters, including lease drafting and property sales/acquisitions.
Matthew also specialises in employment law, giving advice to both employers and employees on topics ranging from contract drafting, dispute and grievance settlements, statutory regulation and tribunal representation. This compliments his corporate and commercial work, and allows him to take a holistic and pragmatic approach when these two areas cross-over, for example, in the sale or purchase of a business.
Professional Credentials:
Matthew studied at the University of Central Lancashire. He won the Maxwell Law Prize for best final year performance, having graduated from the Law School with a First Class honours degree in Law. He went on to attain the highest attainable grade in the post-graduate legal diploma. He has practiced law in Manchester and Preston, and now resides in Preston with his wife.
